The goal of CBT is to change the way we think, which in turn changes the way we feel and behave. One of the first steps in CBT is to become more aware of these thoughts and feelings.
The client is actively involved in the process and will be set homework to complete to help to confirm current thinking and build on what has been worked on in their CBT sessions and help them to overcome their current difficulties.
Anxiety
Anxiety is a common emotion experienced by everyone at some stage during their lives when they are faced with difficult and challenging situations. Some typical signs of anxiety may include increased heart rate, sweating, hot flushes and heavy breathing. Counselling can help to learn and develop coping strategies to successfully manage these feelings of anxiety and stress.
Depression
Persistent sadness or low mood and loss of interest or enjoyment in activities, poor concentration, and tiredness can all be symptoms of depression. Counselling can help you understand your thought patterns and identify any harmful or unhelpful ideas or thoughts that you have that can make you depressed.
Anger
Anger is an emotion that we will all feel at some point. Counselling helps to manage these behaviours and recognise the situations when we get angry. Providing techniques and tools to help you control your anger and accompanying behaviour.
Self Esteem
Low self-esteem can be a result of negative live experiences. These experiences may include being criticised or judged negatively, such as from a parent, care giver or school bully. As adults’ abusive relationships and stressful life events can also cause low self-esteem.
We go through life evaluating ourselves and others. We put a value on what we consider we are worth. These values vary from person to person. If we get into the habit of thinking negatively about ourselves then low self esteem is often the result. Counselling can help target these negative thought patterns and make positive changes to how we think and feel about ourselves and others.
This flexible approach combines techniques from different counselling styles, allowing us to create a personalised plan tailored to your unique needs. Integrative counselling is ideal for addressing a wide range of issues, including bereavement, relationship challenges, and personal growth.
