Children, Young People & Adult Counselling.

Children

Children can have problems that affect how they feel, act or learn. In Child and Adolescent therapy, they can learn how to work out their problems, help them cope and communicate better.

Children and young people therapy is a particular way of understanding the young person’s mind and functioning in the world around them.

The counsellor creates an environment where the child or young person feels free to act out and address their own feelings in safety and without judgement. This is achieved by working with the child or young person creatively to give them the freedom to explore and identify relevant issues.

The counsellor selects and uses the relevant medium or activity in accordance with the child’s developmental age. For example, play or sand therapy, art, toys, puppet work or interactive activities may be used to enable the child to articulate their concerns and wants.

Working together to identify their feelings and behaviours and support the child or young person move forward to make changes to their feelings and behaviours in a way that works for them.

Young People

Adolescence presents many challenges including physiological, biological, psychological and social changes. Counselling can support and help the young person find ways to adapt and manage these challenges as they move towards independence. The counselling relationship gives the young person the right to make the decisions that are right for them.
